STATUS 80 - FINN LYNGGAARD

Monday 11th January - on his 80th birthday - Glasmuseet Ebeltoft opened the exhibition "Status 80" with glass, ceramics and painting by Finn Lynggaard. Finn Lynggaard has designed and curated the exhibition himself and he has also written the comprehensive text in the catalogue, which has been published in connection with the exhibition.

For forty years, Finn Lynggaard has enthusiastically explored the vast possibilities with glass as a material. Today, his beautiful flower decorated glass bowls, vases, and plates are modern classics. He is renowned throughout the world and among his admirers are HM the Queen, who is the owner of several of his works, such as ”The Four Seasons”.

The exhibition ”Status 80” presents older ceramic works and painting as well as a multitude of works in glass: from light hearted sculptures like ”Mickey Mouse on a Pedestal with Butterflies” (1991-92) to the classic poppy decorated bowls.

Finn Lynggaard has had immense influence on Danish and international glass. Together with a small group of legendary artists working with glass, for example Harvey Littleton (USA), Finn Lynggaard was one of the pioneers. As one of the exponents for the ’Studio glass movement’ throughout the 1970’s these artists challenged the traditional way of working with glass, which had been connected to large glass factories.
