INNER VIEW - New exhibition at Glasmuseet

The 35 year old Japanese artist, Masayo Odahashi, has already achieved international recognition for her outstanding work in glass. For the first time, Glasmuseet Ebeltoft presents a solo exhibition with new works by Masayo Odahashi. ”Inner View” opens on 13th February 2010.

Masayo Odahashi, "White Rope".

Masayo Odahashi finds her motifs in everyday life. Her preferred motifs are young women, sitting quietly alone or in pairs with their faces looking down. From time to time they are accompanied by the figure of a rabbit’s head, inspired by traditional Japanese fairytales, in which the rabbit symbolises the unspoiled human being. The sculptures are characterized by a meditative calmness and an intensity, which spellbinds the viewer.

Masayo Odahashi creates her pieces using the lost-wax technique. She pours glass into a form made of plaster, created from sketches and a wax model, which is melted away to give room for the glass. After this, she ’paints’ on face, hair and hands with a thin layer of mixed glass powder.

The title of the exhibition, ”Inner View”, is the artist’s own words for describing what her work is about.

Masayo Odahashis works are exhibited at Glasmuseet Ebeltoft until 13th June 2010.
