Glasmuseet Ebeltoft's extensive collection of contemporary glass has been established with the support of more than 600 internationally recognised glass artists from all over the world. These artists have all generously donated or lent work to the collection, which today comprises of more than 1500 objects.

The collection consists of work by artists from the following countries:

Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Kenya, Latvia, Lithuania, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Republic of Belarus, Rumania, Russia, Scotland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Turkey, Ukraine, USA, Venezuela, Yugoslavia.

The main aim of Glasmuseet Ebeltoft is to show the latest tendencies in contemporary glass art, so if artists create an object which is better or very different from the object they are represented with in the museum's collection, they are welcome to exchange or supplement their work. This means that the museum can continue to show up-to-date work and current trends in glass.

Participation in the project is determined by an invitation from Glasmuseet Ebeltoft. The criteria, however, is that participants are professionals with their main occupation in glass.

Entries to the museum are not subject to any form of censoring, and the artist hence becomes his/her own curator. This distinguishes Glasmuseet Ebeltoft from any other traditional museum, and it is one of the only one's of it's kind in the world.

We are currently in the process of updating our database and soon hope to be able to publish further information about the artists in the collection, as well as show photographs of their work.

The permanent collection is presented in various theme exhibitions every year. After a period of time, works are often exchanged for other works which still fit the chosen theme. In this way, we can show a larger number works from the collection. Occasionally the total exhibition space is occupied by separate exhibitions, but the museum strives to show as many of the works from the collection as possible.
