Solo-exhibition with Therman Statom at Glasmuseet Ebeltoft
30.03.2012 – 18.11.2012

”In a rapidly changing world, it is of great importance to provide man with space and time to dream and sense.”
Therman Statom

On Friday, 30th March the exhibition SIX VOYAGES by American artist Therman Statom, will open at Glasmuseet Ebeltoft. The installation consists of six consecutive investigations, each shaped in the form of a different voyage situated in six rooms of the museum. The mixed-media installation will include blown glass, mirror, sheet metal construction, painting, video, sound, found objects, and prints.

The installation’s overarching intent is to explore the region’s environment, history, and culture in terms of how the region has changed, how it is changing, and how it will change. Focusing specifically on the Ebeltoft region, the site and its evolution serves as a metaphor for a range of universal evolutionary forces. The six voyages will investigate themes such as the North Sea, Resistance, the Space Between, Walking, Forbidden and Sunlight. The installation will also include two outdoor exhibits, a mirrored throne and a series of mirrored houses that will float in the museum pools so that they look like they were cut in the water.

58 year old Therman Statom has by critics in USA been compared with Robert Rauschenberg, one of the greatest artists of our time. He has had more than 180 exhibitions around the world and has received several international prizes for his work.

After the opening of the exhibition in Ebeltoft Therman Statom will work on a large outdoor sculpture in the garden which can be followed by our guests.   Therman Statom (b.1953) lives and works in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. He was educated at Pratt Institute, New York (1978) and Rhode Island School of Design (1974). Represented in numerous private and public international collections.

SIX VOYAGES will be Therman Statom's first solo-exhibition in Denmark.

The exhibition will be opened by U.S. Ambassador to Denmark, Laurie S. Fulton, on Friday, 30th March at 5.00pm.

The exhibition will be open to the public from Saturday 31st March and can be seen until 18th November 2012.
