„Red/Blue Descending Form“ (1984) by Harvey K. Littleton, one of the founders of The studio glass movement. Littleton is a member of Glasmuseet Ebeltoft‘s Advisory Council, whose work can be seen in the exhibition PAVING THE WAY at Glasmuseet Ebeltoft until 13th March 2011.

The path to the first exhibition and a professional career as an artist can be long and windy. This was also the case for the members of Glasmuseet Ebeltoft’s Advisory Council, who belong to the absolute elite of contemporary glass. As working artists, lecturers and members of the museum’s Advisory Council they have helped to pave the way for several emerging artists over the years.

With the exhibition PAVING THE WAY, Glasmuseet Ebeltoft presents an exclusive selection of works from The Permanent Collection, made by members of The Advisory Council.

The Advisory Council was established in 1991. The members, with the exception of one, are all high profile, international artists working with glass. Each of them have had great influence on the studio glass movement, which set new standards for working with glass in the beginning of the 1960s. Together with innovative artists from all over the world they proved that it was possible to work independantly with glass in smaller workshops, thus paving the way for the recognition of glass as an art form of it‘s own.

A broad selection of work and techniques are represented in the exhibition.  From the Italian master blower, Lino Tagliapietra‘s elegant, blown objects to one of Sweden’s most important glass makers, Bertil Vallien‘s cast figures, and German born Klaus Moje, whose colourful, abstract fused plates have had a great influence on Australian glass in the 1980s. The works in the exhibition are all a part of the museum’s permanent collection, which consists of more than 1500 pieces by more than 700 artists from 48 countries.

The Advisory Council consists of Dale Chihuly, USA; Harvey K. Littleton, USA; Bert van Loo, The Netherlands; Klaus Moje, Australia; Joel Philip Myers, USA; Bertil Vallien, Sweden; Yan Zoritchak, France; Lino Tagliapietra, Italy; Durk Valkema, The Netherlands; Elizabeth Swinburne, England; Toots Zynsky, USA, and director Helmut Ricke, Museum Kunst Palast Düsseldorf, Germany.

Exhibition period 9th September 2010 - 13th March 2011.
