LENE BØDKER

8th December 2007 – 12th May 2008

Glasmuseet Ebeltoft is proud to present the first major solo exhibition of works by the internationally recognized, Danish artist, Lene Bødker.

Lene Bødker is highly regarded for her unique blown, cast and beautifully finished sculptural objects both in Denmark and around the world. As the first Danish artist ever, she received the prestigious Kanazawa ”Grand Prize” earlier this year. The prize was awarded to her for the piece ”Section”, a sculptural, cylindrical object made of cast glass and carved with a hammer and chisel. With its living surface, it has associations with Nature’s organic forms – to a tree stump or a torso. ”Section” is made with clarity and precision, which is characteristic for Lene Bødker’s abstract and poetic works.

The artist has concentrated on the colour ”red” for a number of years. For her, ”red” represents life, blood, strength, passion, the ultimate and uncompromising colour. In the exhibition in Ebeltoft she experiments with ”red” as a dominant colour in some of her works in order to experiment what effect the colour has on the space.

The exhibition will be shown in the new wing at the museum, which was opened last year. The extensive exhibition is divided into three sections with each section concentrating on a certain topic or theme, and will provide an exquisite view into Lene Bødker’s art with objects, sculptures and reliefs from the past two years. Among the works on display are works made specifically for the exhibition in Ebeltoft as well as works, never shown in Denmark before.

Lene Bødker belongs to the elite of  Danish glass art. She graduated from Danmarks Designskole in 1992 and is represented at galleries in France and the USA. She has staged several solo exhibitions in Paris and recently paticipated in ”Contemporary Glass” at the Heller Gallery in New York. Lene Bødker’s work is represented, among other places, at The Danish Museum of Art & Design in Copenhagen, at Holstebro Kunstmuseum in Denmark, and at Museum Kunst Palast in Düsseldorf, Germany. In addition to her sculptural works, she has created a number of large-scale architectural commissions.

The exhibition will be opened by Louise Mazanti ph.d., M.A.
