GLASMUSEET EBELTOFT PRESENTS:

KITCHEN DREAMS

On Sunday, 23rd September Glasmuseet Ebeltoft invites you inside to put a smile on your face with the opening of "KITCHEN DREAMS" with works by Ricky Bernstein, USA.

Ricky Bernstein's infectious humour and obvious narrative joy greet you from the moment you enter the exhibition space on the 1st floor of the old customs house, with walls painted in pink, green and purple. On the walls, large scale 3-D installations in glass and aluminum display domestic dramas, which gently poke fun at the comic situations of everyday life with a clear reference to pop art and comic books. Bernstein's works are both satirical comments on modern life and loving depictions of the artist's childhood in America in the 1950's.

Ricky Bernstein was born in 1952 in Providence, RI, USA. He lives in a beautiful rural setting in the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts with his wife Elisabeth and daughters Sophie and Willa. The wild activity level at home has a profound affect on Ricky's work along with such current greats as Red Grooms, Jack Levine and Gary Larson. Growing up in the 1950's world of sit-com television drama, continues to play a major role in his current themes. Ricky also draws influence from such wonderful painters as Thomas Hart Benton, Paul Cadmus and Reginald Marsh in particular.  A keen interest in cartooning took hold in grade school along with a strong desire to make art a life’s choice. His work is widely collected throughout the US and Europe including the Corning Museum of Glass in NY, the Museum of Craft and Design, in NYC, and the Renwick Gallery in Washington, DC.

All works are painted glass and aluminum, oil and acrylic paints, colour pencil, and mixed media objects.
