THE NORDIC SPIRIT
13th November 1999 - 12th March 2000
- an exhibition presenting the calm, clear and precise expressions in Nordic glass art.
Streamlined shapes and the omittance of bright colours are common characteristics for the work presented in the exhibition "The Nordic Spirit" on the first floor of the museum.
The exhibition presented examples of renown and experienced artists' work, as well as newly established artists' interpretation of "the spirit". Each artist showed 4-6 objects, ranging from small objects on plinths to large installations and wall panels.
Streamlined shapes, simplicity, clearness and archetypal forms were a domineering factor. As in many other forms of Scandinavian art, music and literature, one gets the impression of the dualism between being spontaneous, vulnerable and fragile but at the same time being solid, invincible and strong.
Work by the following artists could be seen in the exhibition:
Paula Bartron, Sweden; Lene Bødker, Denmark; Trine Drivsholm, Denmark; Sigrun Einarsdöttir, Iceland; Kjell Engman, Sweden; Frederik Friederichsen, Denmark; Oluf Føinum, Norway; Annaleena Hakatie, Finland; Helle Helsinghoff, Denmark; Lars Hellsten, Sweden; Päivi Kekälainen, Finland; Pipaluk Lake, Denmark; Søren Larsen, Iceland; Mikko Merikallio, Finland; Rauni Mustonen, Finland; Stig Persson, Denmark; Timo Rytkönen, Finland; Markku Salo, Finland; Marianne Solberg, Norway; Malin Svensson, Sweden, Bertil Vallien, Sweden
